Annie always walked along the waters edge when she was troubled. The sun was just beginning its’ final descent as the sky waited in a silent anticipation. The colors were already beginning to ascend from the waters edge and the Seagull songs’ echoed across the calm waters. She was a slight girl, always sensitive and caring. Never able to bear her own children, she cared for others youth in the local day care and when she met Rob there, they connected instantly. His calm demeanor, and sensitive responses had appealed to her loneliness, and they soon were saying their vows in the local community church amidst a gathering of adoring neighbors. As she strolled along quietly, she could feel the cool sand embrace her small feet, and wrap around her toes. It was Rob who had forced this retreat; he wouldn’t leave her alone. Questioning her fears, she wondered why she couldn’t open fully to his probing questions and his gentle hands. Realizing she wasn’t alone she turned to greet him with a smile, but there one no one there. A shiver crept up her spine, and she turned for home, still feeling the caress of the cool water on her toes. (more…)

Jeremy lay dying. It wasn’t unexpected, he had been terminally ill for several years. What really bugged him though, was that he was only 13 years old and hadn’t gotten to do all the things boys his age dreamed of. Hell, he was still a virgin, even though he had started puberty the previous year, before he got really sick. At least, he was at home and had his cat Emmi, a gift from his parents when he became bed-ridden last year. Jeremy wasn’t too frightened at his impending death and Emmi was a big reason why. She seemed so empathetic and spent most of his days curled up next to him. (more…)

“My God, what’s he doing?” Riker reached out to touch Data’s shoulder, and an intense flare of light momentarily blinded everyone in the hall outside the Computer Main Core Access. There was a thump, and when Picard’s vision cleared he saw his first officer laying on the corridor floor, a grimace of pain on his chiseled features.

Picard and Riker had been reviewing the Enterprise’s mission schedule as they toured the Engineering section of the massive starship. Suddenly the wall speakers, the comm badges, and seemingly even the hull of the huge ship itself emitted a long, rapturous moan. Tom was sitting on his porch, drinking a beer, when he saw the strange lights in the sky. They seemed to be in a circle and they blinked blue, yellow and red. They didn’t look like any plane he’d ever seen before. He headed off into his cornfield to get a better look. Walking between the long, straight rows of prime Iowa corn he kept one eye on the sky. It was still there and, if anything, the circle seemed to be getting bigger. Whatever it was seemed to be coming closer to the ground. A white light began glowing in the center. Darned, if it didn’t look some kind of flying saucer, Tom thought. He saw a thick beam of white light and then his world went black. (more…)
